What is HIFU and how does it work?

Standing for high-intensity focused ultrasound, HIFU is an industry-leading technology that uses targeted energy waves to stimulate our skin’s natural regeneration process.

The key word here is natural. During a HIFU treatment, we are not introducing anything new into your system and instead, engaging the body’s own collagen production and essentially, putting its foot on the accelerator.

These ultrasound waves trick the skin into thinking it’s injured and therefore, speed up the collagen process to repair it. This cell regeneration produces more collagen and results in more structure and elasticity in the skin. 

Why would I choose HIFU over another anti-ageing treatment?

What makes HIFU different from other skin rejuvenation treatments is the depth at which this regeneration occurs.

HIFU bypasses the outer layer of the skin, known as the epidermal layer, because these results would be exclusively superficial, aka, they’d look great but not provide the long-term effects we’re seeking. Instead, it visits the dermal layer of the skin and then the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS).

Do I have to treat my whole face?

No, whilst the most common HIFU approach is the HIFU Full Face Lift Package, which treats the full face and neck, you can treat individual areas of concern.

Treatments on our HIFU menu such as Hollywood Eyes and Hollywood Lips are focused on stimulating collagen production in those specific areas and can be added to an existing facial service.

Will I experience any discomfort or downtime?

This is one of our favourite benefits of HIFU. You can enjoy all the advantages of an ultra-advanced treatment without pain or downtime.

As HIFU treatments are non-invasive, there’s no penetration or piercing of the skin. This means downtime is at a bare minimum and you can return to your day as normal post-treatment. A slight redness to the skin may occur that will subside within 30-60 minutes.

The treatment is also not uncomfortable. You may experience some warmth, tingling or prickling in the treatment area as the energy is distributed to the deeper layers of the skin but it is considered very tolerable.
